From: Daksie@webtv.net (John Johnson) Subject: Tx mods/FT-3000 Here is a very simple modification for out of band transmit. Which can have some very steep fines & penalties. I will not be held responsible for any failure of this modification. I have performed this on my rig and it works without a hitch! 1.) Disconnect power cord and antenna. 2.) Remove top cover of the radio. 3.) Carefully lift speaker out of it resting place and set it aside. 4.) You will see a GREEN wire. Cut the GREEN wire and dress it as not to short it out on a metal contact. 5.) Replace the speaker and top cover plate. Then connect power to the radio. 6.) To complete the mod you must re-set the CPU on the radio to all factory default settings. This is done by (Please refer to User's Manual) holding the F1 & F2 buttons in WHILE turning the radio ON. NOTICE!!!! All memory settings will be erased. Please record your memory channels and settings before you open the radio. There is a computer program that will do this, but I find it a better practice to get to know your radio a little better by manually re-programming. This will NOT open up the Cellular Rx coverage and Tx range may differ by radio. Life is a journey... Not a guided tour!!! I did some research and found my submission was partially incorrect. I stated that after the green wire underneath the speaker was cut & dressed that the radio needed to be reset by pressing F1 & F2 while powering up the radio...THIS IS INCORRECT!!! The correct function to re-set the microprocessor is to PRESS VFO/MR & F1 while powering up the radio. And the wire still needs to be cut. I appologize for any inconvience or heartache this has caused. Please insert the usual DISCLAIMER here. TRANSMITTING OUTSIDE YOUR CLASS OF LICENSE IS ILLEGAL AND PUNISHABLE BY LAW.
